This tour has been set for the best time to photograph the Agami Heron, that way it must happens during the rainy season.
Names of the Main Habitats that we will visit:
- The highland of San Ramon.
- Rainforest on the foothills of the Caribbean slope (La Fortuna de San Carlos).
- The lowlands of Guatuso Valley.
- The highlands of Poas Volcano.
Price includes:
- All lodging.
- All meals except arrival dinner and dinner the night before departure at Hotel Bougainvillea.
- All taxes on meals and lodging.
- Full-day, photo guide including transport.
Trip Gear and Clothing:
This is a photo tour; therefore, Cameras are the main item.
You are coming to a Rainforest, though you may need simple tools, but useful:
- Cameras of your choice are required in all wildlife photo tours.
- Any camera gear; extra lenses, extenders, Filters, battery chargers, tripod if you like it, Camera straps, Light kit.
- Rain covers for the camera and lens.
- Flashes of preference (some places do not allow flash), Reflectors, or even Studio backdrop, (Please take into consideration the weight of the suitcases).
- A good raincoat or waterproof rain gear always makes a big difference when an unexpected shower comes through (you may not have experienced it).
- You should bring an umbrella instead of a raincoat, it can get too hot.
- Short and long sleeve shirts, we also recommend bringing long & short pants, all these items lightweight and comfortable.
- Lightweight jacket, hopefully, synthetic material, and a heavier fleece for cool weather.
- A good hat that can offer protection from the sun.
- Walking or hiking shoes and sandals or flip flops.
- Bottle for water or “hydration pack” such as Camelback.
- Prescription glasses and sunglasses with a strap if you prefer.
Additional Highly Recommended Items:
- Prescription medicines you may need during the trip.
- Personal toilet articles.
- Casual clothing, such as jeans and sleepwear.
- Swimming suit for pools.
- Trekking poles.
- Travel alarm clock.
- Small flashlight.
- Camera and extra memory card.
- Sunblock, insect repellent.

This tour has been set for the best time to photograph the Agami Heron, that way it must happens during the rainy season.
Start every day with gentle guided walks through lush Rainforests at High, mid and lowland forest ending at lush wetlands where the Agami Heron can be located. In this tour we will be able to photograph vibrant toucans, the elusive Quetzal, and iridescent hummingbirds gliding around the feeders.
Local expert guides will help you spot key species and find picture-perfect angles—ideal for capturing both intimate portraits and dramatic in-flight shots.
Tour Plan:
- Day 1: Arrive to costa Rica, one of our dedicated drivers is going to collect you and drive you to your hotel not far from the airport, overnight at Alajuela City.
- Day 2: After breakfast we will departure to San Ramon for photo opportunities where Resplendent Quetzal and many Tanagers are the stars of the day. Later on, the day we will be arriving at Arenal Observatory Lodge 3 nights.
- Day 3: Arenal Observatory Lodge is a place that offers many opportunities for hummingbirds, parrots, curassows, toucans and many more species, therefore we will spent the whole day here photographing.
- Day 4: After breakfast, we will take a short drive to Bogarín Trails for some birds such as Motmots, Owls, Rails and other creatures like Sloths.
- Day 5: Today we will move to the Gustoso Valley which is the home of the famous Agami Heron, we will be working on to get the best photos for the next 2 days. Overnight at Hotel Wilson Upala.
- Day 6: Agami Heron photo opportunities, Overnight at Hotel Wilson Upala.
- Day 7: Back to the international Airport, stop for Cinchona Feeders & and Freddo Fresas all depending on your schedule.
