Lovely Cotinga
Cotinga amabilis
The name of this fantastic, colorful, and quiet bird, was described by John Gould, who was an English Ornithologist as the most beautiful bird of the Northern Isthmus of Panama.
As we searched for more information, we discovered that the meaning of amabilis which is the scientific name that describes the bird well, the meaning is not more than; something worthy to be loved, or something someone needs to find, in other words, when bird watchers make to see a lovely cotinga the easiest way to explain the experience is like when a person riches wander-wall.
Jay VanderGaast, one of the most outstanding guides in the bird world, and his colleague Vernon Campos a well-known Costa Rica Naturalist, got to see this incredible bird at Rancho Naturalista while they were guiding one of the Christmas tours.
Thanks, Jay, and thanks Vernon, for keeping us updated with this fabulous bird, or in other words “Lovely bird”.
